Feedback on my portfolio by a professional!

While developing my portfolio, I wanted it to clearly showcase my skills at a professional standard while still reflecting my creativity. I aimed to strike a balance between clean, structured design and expressive visual elements that represent me as a multimedia designer. To improve my initial ideas, I presented my designs to Creative Media Technology lecturer Paul Emery and careers consultant Ben Robertson to gain feedback and inspiration.

One of the key points they raised was that, since I am aiming for a highly creative career and have a strong passion for illustration and graphic design, my portfolio should reflect that more. Rather than sticking to a standard, minimal layout, they suggested incorporating subtle illustrations into the background to better express my creative identity. This would help make the portfolio more visually engaging and personal. They also recommended creating a more creative CV instead of a traditional one and including a link to it within my portfolio. This approach would help me stand out to employers by showcasing not just my skills, but also my personality and design style.

Another valuable suggestion was to develop a strong brand identity to give my work a more professional and cohesive feel. This could include creating mock-up posters or business cards that carry my visual style, helping to make my work more memorable. Ensuring that my CV, portfolio, and branding all link together visually would strengthen my overall presentation as a designer.

They also highlighted the strengths of my current design, noting that it was clean, well-organised, and easy to navigate. The layout was not cluttered, making it accessible and simple to understand. This feedback reassured me that my focus on simplicity and structure was effective, and I now aim to build on this by adding more creative elements without compromising usability.
