Online discussion with a professional!
One of the most effective ways to ensure your portfolio reaches a professional standard is by seeking feedback from someone already working in the industry. I had the opportunity to speak with Rob Gittins from Elygra Marketing, where we had a one-to-one session to review my final portfolio design and discuss ways it could be improved.
He provided several useful suggestions. Firstly, he recommended justifying my text rather than centre-aligning it, as this would make the layout appear more organised and improve readability. He also suggested cropping the homepage photo of myself so that less of my shoulders are visible, creating a more professional appearance. In addition, he advised including my email and phone number in the footer, alongside a link to my CV, to make my contact details more accessible. Another key point he raised was about my logo on the ‘A little bit about me’ section located on the Home Page — from a distance, the sunglasses could be mistaken for eyes rather than reading as the word “cool,” so slightly enlarging or adjusting it could improve clarity.
Alongside this constructive feedback, he also highlighted several strengths in my portfolio. He noted that the font choice was clean and simple, contributing to a professional look. He also liked how the layout of my work was well-organised rather than cluttered, making it easy to navigate. In particular, he praised the logo design and the way I had integrated my own illustrations into the overall portfolio, which added a unique and personal touch.
Overall, he described my portfolio as well-presented and creative, which gave me confidence while also providing clear areas for improvement.
